iRacing.com - Okayama & Mazda MX-5

iRacing.com’s star is definitely on the rise in the land of the rising sun. iRacing recently signed an agreement with the Okayama International Circuit that will see the former home of the Formula One Pacific Grand Prix join the growing number of international circuits available to our membership. And, thanks to some energetic web sites, many iRacers are now aware that we are already doing some preliminary work on the Mazda MX-5 in the hopes of introducing the popular two-seater later this year. (Although it should be noted that iRacing.com and Mazda have not, as yet, put pen to paper on a final agreement regarding the MX-5.)

The 2.3 mile, 11 turn Okayama International Circuit (formerly known as TI Circuit Aida) was the scene of the 1994 and ’95 F1 Pacific Grands Prix and, more recently, has played host to Formula V6 Asia, Super GT Championship International and World Touring Car Championship events. In addition to being one of the world’s most popular sports cars, the Mazda MX-5 is one of the world’s most raced sports cars and is a staple of the SCCA’s Pro Racing Playboy MX-5 Cup pro series as well as the Showroom Stock B amateur class.

iRacing.com - Modeling tires

Dave Kaemmer has posted an article in iRacing blog about tire model in iRacing.com simulation.

Tires are perhaps the least well understood parts of road-going vehicles, despite the fact that they are one of the most studied. Obviously, since they are typically the only part of a car in contact with the ground (if everything is working right), their behavior is critical in determining how a car handles, how well it grips the road, and so ultimately, how fast it can go.

SkiddMark Interview - Greger Huttu

Greger Huttu, world’s fastest simracing driver, has been interviewed by SkiddMark.com.

“It must be something in the water.” I’ve just asked Greger Huttu, the fastest man on earth in a virtual race car, why Finns are so quick at so many forms of motorsport. Maybe it’s that, perhaps it’s because in Finland they have a skidpan element to their driving test or possibly it’s because as children they’re force fed highlight clips of legends Kankkunen, Hakkinen and Makkinen before bed time. Either way, there’s no doubting that for a country with a mere population of five million, Finland has an incredible history of producing talented racing drivers.

SBK- X Demo Officially Announced

Black Bean Games officially announced that SBK-X Demo is available for Xbox Live Gold members, while Silver members, Playstation Network and PC users can download it starting from the 26th May.

The game is the latest Superbike game to be produced by Black Bean Games and hopes to increase its fanbase with the inclusion of an “arcade” mode which was seen by gamers as a necessary addition as the gameplay due to the previous Superbike games being thought to be a little too focused on the simulation side of things with no option to drastically change any of this.

For the first time in the SBK gaming franchise, you will be able to challenge more than 90 real drivers on the official circuits, create and customize your own biker and race in the 3 different classes: Superbike, Supersport and Superstock 1000. Fun and realism through the Arcade and Simulation mode, with the chance to achieve goals in your career and enjoy a solid multiplayer game mode up to 16 players.

iRacing.com - Promo video Ford Falcon V8 Supercar & Phillip Island

iRacing.com has released a promo video of their new car Ford Falcon V8 and their first Australian race circuit Phillip Island.

The Ford Falcon V8 is a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive design and features a five-liter “Boss 302” SVO capable of producing 620 – 650 brake horsepower. The engine is a push rod, two valve design equipped with electronic fuel injection and electronically limited to 7,500 RPM.

Phillip Island is steeped in the history of Australian motor racing. A circuit composed of the island's interior roads was used for the original Australian Grand Prix in 1928 and continued to be used for the race up until 1935. The circuit closed in the late 1970s, but was redeveloped and re-opened in 1989 to host the first international version of the Australian motorcycle Grand Prix. It continues to host the race today and is also a venue for the Superbike World Championship, V8 Supercars and the Australian Drivers' Championship.

iRacing.com - 2010 Season 2 Build News

The 2010 Season 2  build includes a number of new and improved features designed to enhance the iRacing system. High on the list is additional support for multi-class/car racing including the ability to create hosted sessions for up to three different car types.

Targa Florio - Preview screenshots

6e66o has released new preview screenshots of the Targa Florio for rFactor.

The Targa Florio was an open road endurance automobile race held in the mountains of Sicily near Palermo. Founded in 1906, it used to be the oldest sports car racing event, part of the World Championship until 1973. While also a whole tour (giro) of the island was used at times, the track length of the last decades was limited to the 72 kilometres (45 miles).
After 1973, it was a national sports car event until it was discontinued in 1977 due to safety concerns. It is since run as a rallying event, and is part of the Campionato Italiano Rally, the Italian national rally championship.
